All LAWGID students are responsible for ensuring that they possess valid insurance.
The insurance scheme must take effect from when the students start their journey to participate in the LAWGID programme (maximum two months before the start of the programme) and until at least two months after the end of the studies (end of the course, unless the student leaves earlier).
Insurance costs for LAWGID scholarship students will be reimbursed by the respective university.
Before committing to an insurance provider LAWGID scholarship students must check with the LAWGID administration whether the amount is eligible for reimbursement.

- direct payment of hospital stays
- reimbursement of outpatient care and other medical expenses
- 100% cover for doctor’s fees, medicines, examinations and analyses prescribed by a physician, urgent dental care following an accident, all hospital expenses and surgical fees (including advances on hospital expenses), repatriation in the event of serious illness or accident

- non-permanent and non-chronic mental disorders
- pregnancies of less than 6 months (at the moment of departure from the home country to participate in the action) may not be excluded from cover

Healthcare – rules for Serbia
However, students who are insured in countries that have a bilateral social security/health insurance agreement with Serbia may be entitled to urgent or medically necessary healthcare during their temporary stay in Serbia, provided they obtain the appropriate certificate or use the relevant health insurance document issued by their home country (see https://www.eng.rfzo.rs/index.php/useful-information/urgent-medical-care and https://www.eng.rfzo.rs/index.php/useful-information/urgent-medical-care?utm).
The Serbian Health Insurance Fund (RFZO) confirms that foreign insured persons from countries covered by international agreements may access urgent healthcare in Serbia on the basis of:
- a prescribed bilateral insurance form;
- a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), where applicable (students insured in EU/EEA countries or Switzerland may, where applicable, access medically necessary healthcare in Serbia using the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). However, the use of EHIC in Serbia depends on the applicable international arrangements and the student’s insurance status. Students are therefore advised to verify with their national health insurance institution whether EHIC-based coverage is available in Serbia and what services are covered);
- or proof of health insurance issued in their home country.
(See the information about bilateral agreements at: https://rfzo.gov.rs/index.php/osiguranalica/zz-u-ino/ino-ugovori and about EHIC at https://employment-social-affairs.ec.europa.eu/policies-and-activities/moving-working-europe/eu-social-security-coordination/european-health-insurance-card_en).
- Because bilateral agreements and EHIC coverage generally focus on urgent and necessary healthcare and may not cover all services, international students are strongly advised to obtain private health or travel insurance covering their entire stay in Serbia, in accordance with EMJM insurance requirements.
